FREQUENTLY ASKED Questions
No. Alabama is a Direct Access state, meaning you can come directly to a PT without a prescription from your doctor. Individuals seeking treatment who are paying privately have direct access to physical therapy services without any restrictions. In our evaluation, we will screen for things that might require more intervention and refer out if needed. But being able to go right to PT can save time (and money), and get you back to feeling better quicker.
FortitudeRx is classified as an out-of-network provider with all insurance companies. Therefore, we do not bill insurance directly for our services. Instead, our patients are responsible for payment at the time of each visit and may request a superbill for reimbursement purposes.
Often times when using their insurance, patients receive unexpected large bills for services that they thought were covered weeks or months later. Especially if they haven't met their deductible or out-of-pocket limits. At FortitudeRx, patients will never receive a surprise bill from us or their insurance company for our services.
The short answer is yes. However, this depends on each individual's specific insurance company and details of their plan. There are several variables including deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, and out-of-pocket maximums that vary for each insurance plan. These numbers often vary for in-network and out-of-network providers.
You'll want to find out what your "out-of-network outpatient physical therapy benefits" are from your insurance company. If you obtain your plan's Summary of Benefits & Coverages (SBC) document, our team can help you better understand the details of your plan to answer this questions.
We also provide a "Superbill" upon request with all of the information needed for you to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement for our services.
Great question!
Instead of focusing 100% on you during your treatment, insurance-based clinics can only survive through high patient volumes. They have to load their therapists with anywhere from 2-4 patients at a time to fill a profitable schedule.
This drastically reduces the patient’s time with the therapist and the quality of the treatment, and leads to clinician burnout as they can no longer provide the full value of their skills and must spend an inordinate amount of time and energy on documentation and splitting their focus between patients. Trust me, I've been there.
The use of unskilled aides or less-skilled PTAs to fill the clinic schedule even more furthers the gap between you and quality care.
All of this is no one's fault but the insurance company. And everyone loses but them in their game.
Which is why we don't play it.
Basically, we (i.e. you and your therapist) are not constrained by insurance rules that would dictate how we spend your time. It allows us the opportunity to focus 100% of our attention and efforts on helping YOU.
While going out-of-network might cause initial sticker shock, it also gives you the treatment you need to improve much faster, with fewer visits per week, often leading to fewer overall costs in money, time, and sanity.
We understand that this is a point of concern for a lot of people. We will work with you to build a customized treatment plan that is effective and affordable for you.
Absolutely! We are an approved healthcare service provider and all of our services are eligible to be purchased using either HSA or FSA funds.
Ah, there it is. The big question. We've been advised to not include our pricing on our site so that we can get you on a phone call to "conquer objections" before telling you the prices.
Classic sales bro stuff.
We think awkwardly avoiding this topic and fighting through pricing friction is an awful way to start a relationship.
So, let's skip the bullshit, shall we?
If you're looking for the cheapest way to feel slightly better, this isn't it.
We’re not the clinic that gives you a few stretches, some ineffective non-progressed exercises, a heat pack, and sends you on your way. We're not the place you go when you're just trying to get by until your issue pops up again. We refuse to deliver watered-down care to get more patients in the door.
But if you're done bouncing between providers, slapping more bandaids the same issue(s), and modifying your how you move year after year—this is the last stop.
We help you fully resolve the problem, rebuild your confidence, and get back to performing at your best—without fear, limitations, or depending on anyone else.
If that's your priority, then check out our pricing here.
There. Now you can book a free discovery call to ask any other questions without either of us feeling weird 👍
No, in most cases. We will discuss your injury history on your discovery call and can advise if imaging is needed prior to coming in. If you already have had imaging done, you may send it to us prior to your initial evaluation or bring it with you.
We recommend wearing loose fit, comfortable athletic clothing so that we can easily access the body part that you're seeking treatment for and any adjacent areas. Generally, avoid wearing clothes that you would not workout in.
It depends on your situation, but my rehab clients see me anywhere from 1x/month to 2x/week. If you're in the initial phases of post-surgical recovery, 3x/week may be necessary for a short time, but it's unlikely that is necessary for almost any other case.
Our hybrid approach allows for more time and location freedom for your rehab and fitness goals, while getting better results. We work with each person individually to create a plan that works for their schedule, life, and budget.

For local physical therapy services, we treat everything orthopedic in nature. There's a good chance that, if it hurts when you move, we can help. Chronic and acute pains, movement dysfunctions, weaknesses, balance issues, reduced range of motion, headaches, dizziness, etc.
We treat all kinds of Neck, Back, Shoulder, Hip, Knee, Ankle, and Foot pain, not limited to: Rotator Cuff Injuries, Tendonitis / Tendinopathy, Sprains / Strains, Plantar Fasciitis, Runner's / Jumper's Knee, Overuse Injuries, Postural Dysfunctions, Sports Related Injuries, and more. For remote services, we are able to resolve many of the same orthopedic issues through the use of customized exercise education, modification, and programming. We do not provide "physical therapy" outside of our home state of Alabama, but many of the services that provide the best results are wellness services anyway.
All full sessions are 60-75 minutes in length with exclusively 1:1 treatment with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
We also have shorter manual therapy & recovery sessions that range from 20-45 minutes and include things like dry needling, massage therapy, myofascial release, instrumental assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM/Graston Scraping Technique), assisted stretching, etc. All treatment requires beginning with a comprehensive initial evaluation.
People asking this question are usually referring to a couple of specific questions: 1. How are you different than any other physical therapy clinic?
The differences are huge when compared to the usual outpatient clinics. Most clinics survive on patient volume, not producing results. In the PT world, most big box companies are referred to as “patient mills” because they load their therapists with anywhere from 2-4 patients per hour. This drastically reduces the patient’s time with the therapist, the quality of the treatment, and leads to PT burnout as we can no longer provide the value for which we were trained.
Ever noticed that a patient will be placed on a piece of equipment, like a bike, for exactly 8 minutes? That’s because 8 minutes knocks out 1 “unit” of physical therapy according to insurance and it’s an easy way to keep a patient occupied while the PT helps someone else or tries to catch up on documentation.
FortitudeRx provides exclusively 1:1 treatment with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who is dedicated to creating a specific personalized plan of care that fits your situation and goals. We focus on evidence-based practice, which means minimal ineffective passive modalities (hot/cold packs, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, etc.) with weak evidence and maximum focus on the things that are going to positively affect your outcomes.
Rather than recommending a cookie-cutter "3 times per week for 4 weeks" schedule that interrupts your life, we consider all of the variables of your unique situation and work with you to develop an individualized plan that truly works for you.
Spoiler alert: Our patients generally need far less visits compared to those of a "traditional" PT clinic.
2. How are you different from personal trainers, online fitness coaches, nutritionist, or spiritual healer type health coach?
Most importantly, none of the listed fields require specialized education, any degree (including high school), or certification. None of them are protected legal terms. Nothing is required to use these titles.
Not to take away from any excellent people doing work with those titles. It's just that they're rare.
I have a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree stacked with a Bachelor's in Human Performance & Exercise Science and NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification.
I'm simply better equipped from a credentials, experience, and education standpoint by a lot. I have more and better experience in treatments, program design, coaching for behavior change, evidence-based medicine, and professional services.
It all lends itself to a more effective, personalized, and professional coaching experience.
